Bill of Lading
A legal document issued by a carrier to a shipper that details the type, quantity, and destination of goods being carried.
The bill of lading (B/L) serves three main purposes: it acts as a receipt for shipped goods, a contract of carriage between the shipper and carrier, and a document of title to the goods. There are several types including straight bills of lading (non-negotiable) and order bills of lading (negotiable).
