About VAT Validation

The VIES system is operated by the European Commission and allows businesses to verify the validity of VAT numbers issued by EU member states. A valid VAT number confirms that a business is registered for VAT in the specified country.

How VAT Numbers Work

Each EU country has its own VAT number format. The number always starts with a two-letter country code (e.g., DE for Germany, FR for France) followed by digits and sometimes letters. When using our validator, select the country and enter only the number portion — we'll add the country prefix automatically.
